چکیده
The 40.5-min region of the Escherichia coli map contains the zwf gene, which encodes glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, an enzyme of the pentose phosphate pathway, and the edd and eda genes, which encode 6-phosphogluconate dehydratase and 2-keto-3-deoxy-6-phosphogluconate aldolase, respectively, the key enzymes of the Entner-Doudoroff pathway (4). These three genes are tightly linked, and their order with respect to flanking genetic markers has been firmly established by fine-structure mapping (1, 3). Some time ago the zwf, edd, and eda genes were shown to be present on two plasmids from the Clarke-Carbon gene library (8). Recently, the zwf gene was subcloned from pLC3-33 and its nucleotide sequence was determined (7). Likewise, the edd and eda genes were subcloned from

Genetic mapping of loci for glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, gluconate-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, and gluconate-6-phosphate dehydrase in Escherichia coli.
The loci on the Escherichia coli genome of mutations affecting the constitutive enzymes glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (zwf) and gluconate-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (gnd), and the inducible enzyme gluconate-6-phosphate dehydrase (edd), were determined by conjugation and transduction experiments, chiefly by three-factor crosses. They are in the same region of the chromosome, and their order i...
متن کاملClustering of mutations affecting central pathway enzymes of carbohydrate catabolism in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Mutations in carbohydrate-negative mutants of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 individually deficient in glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (zwf), 6-phosphogluconate dehydratase (edd), or pyruvate carboxylase (pyc) were mapped on the chromosome by plasmid R68.45-mediated conjugation and by bacteriophage F116L-mediated transduction. Loci for all three genes were located in the 45- to 55-min region of ...
متن کاملRegulation of glucose metabolism in Pseudomonas: the phosphorylative branch and entner-doudoroff enzymes are regulated by a repressor containing a sugar isomerase domain.
In Pseudomonas putida, genes for the glucose phosphorylative pathway and the Entner-Doudoroff pathway are organized in two operons; one made up of the zwf, pgl, and eda genes and another consisting of the edd, glk, gltR2, and gltS genes. Divergently with respect to the edd gene is the gap-1 gene. Expression from P(zwf), P(edd), and P(gap) is modulated by HexR in response to the availability of ...
متن کاملA study on the presence of some potential virulence genes and quinolone resistance in avian pathogenic Escherichia coli isolated from chickens in Northeast of Iran
Background: Avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC), which is the causative agent of colibacillosis, harbors several putative virulence genes. An important trait of APEC for both poultry and public health is antibiotic resistance. Objectives: In the present study, some potential virulence genes of APECs isolated from Northeast of Iran and their resistance to the quinolones antibiotics were stu...
متن کاملAnalysis of cloned structural and regulatory genes for carbohydrate utilization in Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO.
Five of the genes required for phosphorylative catabolism of glucose in Pseudomonas aeruginosa were ordered on two different chromosomal fragments. Analysis of a previously isolated 6.0-kb EcoRI fragment containing three structural genes showed that the genes were present on a 4.6-kb fragment in the order glucose-binding protein (gltB)-glucokinase (glk)-6-phosphogluconate dehydratase (edd). Two...
